Introduction: who we are and what we offer
"God's first language is silence" |
Who we are
We are part of Contemplative Outreach UK, which in turn is affiliated to Contemplative Outreach in the U.S.A. Contemplative Outreach is a spiritual network of individuals and small faith communities committed to living the contemplative dimension of the Gospel in everyday life through the practice of Centering Prayer.
With a growing number of people practicing the prayer, or interested in finding out about it, we set up this website in the summer of 2006 - principally as a noticeboard for the benefit of members of our support groups in the London area, but also as a way for others to find out more about Centering Prayer, and to locate us.
Use the menu (and sub-menus) above to find:
- backgound information about Contemplative Outreach and Centering Prayer
- details of our activities in the London area
- a weekly quotation from Thomas Keating, or another source, for you to ponder
- suggestions for further reading, and access to our printed leaflets in .pdf format
- links to other sites
- details of how to get in touch with us
We offer:
- One-day Introductions to Centering Prayer. Contact us if you would like to arrange such a day in your area
- A programme of 6 follow-up meetings at weekly or fortnightly intervals to build on the Introductory Day
- "A Taste of Centering Prayer": a shorter version of the Introductory Day, which can be given over one or two evening meetings. Contact us if you would like to arrange this.
- Support groups, meeting weekly or fortnightly at various London locations, for Centering Prayer and the study of Thomas Keating's video-tape series The Spiritual Journey
- Occasional Quiet Days and days devoted to Lectio Divina
- (Through COUK) 5- and 10-Day Centering Prayer Retreats
If you would like us to alert you by e-mail about our next Introduction to Centering Prayer, contact our webmaster.
